Originally from Los Angeles, California, Dr. Daniel E. Cooper graduated from a number of state universities with degrees in the realm of biochemistry, public health, and medicine. A comprehensive overview of his formal education can be found in his company bio. After earning his Medical Doctorate from Wake Forest University School of Medicine while on scholarship from the U.S. Navy, Dr. Cooper completed his surgical internship at Naval Medical Center San Diego.
His time and experience at Naval Medical Center San Diego inspired him to by providing much-needed medical care for the U.S. Marine Corps Infantry out of Camp Pendleton (Operation Iraqi Freedom). During his time in Fallujah, Iraq (eight months, to be exact) as a Battalion Surgeon, Dr. Cooper was injured in the line of duty.
This unfortunate incident distinguished himself as the first U.S. Navy physician awarded the Purple Heart in nearly 30 years. Nevertheless, after concluding his service with the Marine Corps, Dr. Cooper completed his urology residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. When his residency training came to close, Dr. Cooper transferred to Naval Hospital Jacksonville in Jacksonville, FL to serve as Chief of Urology. After four years at the facility, Dr. Cooper decided it was time to return to the Southwest. This move led him to Affiliated Urologists where he eventually became a member of the team.
Dr. Cooper is a Diplomat of the American Board of Urology and an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. Although he just moved to Arizona as of June 2015, he looks forward to making Phoenix his new home. During his time at Affiliated Urologists, Dr. Cooper hopes to continue to give back to the community through compassionate, patient-center care.
When he’s not working with patients, Dr. Cooper enjoys traveling with his wife and family. They enjoy seeing less traveled areas of the continental U.S., as well as around the world. Dr. Cooper also has a passion for softball, golf, hiking, running in charity 5ks and scuba diving.
